An interview with St Gemma on EWTN Saints Alive program

An interview with St Gemma Galgani on EWTN's new program series "Saints Alive!" and other website news

EWTN has just begun a new series in September entitled "Saints Alive!". Each episode features a specific Saint, and through the "magic" of television the Saint comes from heaven and answers a series of questions spanning a wide variety of current topics affecting Christians in the world today.

The "Saints Alive!" website offers this description of the series:
"Saints Alive!" features 10 of the great saints of history who return from heaven to be interviewed and questioned on some of the most important issues of our age."

Of special interest to readers of this website is that St Gemma has been chosen as one of the ten special Saints for this series. The St. Gemma episode will be aired on EWTN on the following dates:
(Note, all times are Eastern time) Sun. October 23, 2011 at 10:30AM, Mon. October 24, 2011 at 6:00PM, Tue October 25, 2011 at 4:00AM, Wed October 26, 2011 at 10:00PM and Sat, October 29, 2011 at 4:30PM.

Other website news:

In other news this website has surpassed 900,000 visitor page loads and is averaging close to 800 page visits per day, thanks be to God. At the current rate, the website should reach one million page visits in the early part of the New Year. It is a joy to receive the letters and emails from the many people who are discovering and coming to know the "Gem of Christ." Countless souls have been completely enraptured and deeply touched by this simple, little Saint who loved Jesus with all her heart!

Like all the Saints, Gemma leads us ever closer to Jesus, her beloved Spouse, but she does so in her most unique and attractive way--to know Gemma is to love her! And following her loving and holy example she teaches us to try to love Jesus with our whole hearts, and to have a true devotion to Mary, our Mother in heaven. Yes, to know Gemma is to love her, and by doing so we endeavor to make her prayers our own, and her love and devotion to Jesus our own. And Gemma continues from her place in heaven captivating souls and leading them to her Jesus!

----------------------------
In closing, the Passionist Nuns at the Monastery-Sanctuary of St Gemma in Lucca offer a large database of documents on St Gemma, including many of her letters, and the letters of her Spiritual Director, her Confessor and many of her spiritual friends and acquaintances, along with her recorded ecstasies and other documents.

Those interested can find the large library of St Gemma documents here. The catch is they are all in Italian! I am hoping that perhaps God will inspire a reader of this website who is knowledgeable in Italian to volunteer to translate some of these documents into english to be published on this website. If anyone feels moved to do so please email me at gdallaire1@gmail.com

"You love me Jesus, and could I not love You? What wonderful tenderness of a God towards His poor creature! Jesus, when shall I be able to unite myself to You, in order to be no longer seperated from You? Break without delay the chain that unites me to my body, in order that I no longer experience the torment of Your absence.....When will it be, Jesus? Help me, and you shall see that I will finally love You with a love that is sincere, active and very fervent!
I shall remember always your kindness, Oh Jesus. And, this rememberance will stimulate my love.....this Divine flame; I shall keep it always in my heart. Oh Jesus, it is you alone that I wish to love! I no longer belong to myself. I am Yours." -St Gemma Galgani

Dear Glenn,
I recorded the first airing of "Saints Alive" featuring St. Gemma this morning and just finished watching it this afternoon. I could not watch it this AM due to it airing while I was at Mass. Anyway, I just wanted to write and say how beautiful this show one. Tears of joy welled up in my eyes as our saw our dear St. Gemma introduced in the program and the crowd began to clap. The show was so well done and it was so wonderful to see our dear St. Gemma portrayed in such a wonderful fashion. God bless all those who helped to produce this wonderful television program about our dear St. Gemma. I wish there was a way for me to transfer this show onto dvd so that I can show it to my parish. I put the times from your website in the announcements in our parish bulletin this week to let our parishoners know about the airing of this show. I could go on and on about how wonderful this show was and I look forward to seeing it again. I know I say it so often but I mean it from the bottom of my heart, God bless you and your efforts of having this wonderful website in honour of St. Gemma. It is obvious that they used your website for their research on St. Gemma because they even mentioned your website by name! I was so pleasently surprised when I saw your website mentioned in the TV program! I am so happy to have seen this beautiful program in honour of our dear St. Gemma.

Hi Father Todd!
I am really glad to see that you were able to see the "Saints Alive!" episode on St Gemma.

I watched it this morning and like you, I too really enjoyed it. In fact, I am planning on watching it again and also taping it.

I think that the producers did a really good job portraying the holy life of Gemma, and I was happy to see how they not only presented the various key points of her life in a very balanced way, but also they presented both her spiritual life and also the extraordinary mystical graces that she received. And they actress that portrayed Gemma did an excellent job. And I too was happy to see that they mentioned this website for more info on St Gemma.
All in all, a great program! And like you, it brings joy to my heart to see our dear Gemma honored and presented in such a wonderful manner. I pray that many others may come to know and love this "Gem of Christ" who teaches us to love Jesus and Mary with all of our hearts like she did.

And thanks again Father Todd for your kind comments.
