Gemma Umberta Galgani was born on March 12, 1878 and died on April 11, 1903

I post these historical documents here for Gemma's posterity. If you have the ability to read the "chicken scratch" writing, you are more skillful than I (LOL!). I was born in an era where "cursive" was still taught in school, and we were obliged to read and write it extensively. Nevertheless, this stylish and flowing form of cursive is difficult for this writer to make out, but with effort I personally can discern some of it. Perhaps you will have better skills than I. Anyone willing and able to translate it please do and either email me or post it in the comment section below and I will gladly post it here on this page, for the benefit of everyone.

"Fire! Fire in my heart! This morning it is burning...... Dear Jesus, I love you so much! I shall endeavor always to love You; I shall live to love You; I shall die to love You!" ....Give me wings oh Jesus, so I can fly to Your throne! St Gemma Galgani -June, 1902

Excellent translation! The "Maria Maria di Carlo" part at the end of her name is interesting as I don't believe I had seen that documented in the various books about her. Thanks so much Giovanni Breda--everyone here appreciates your efforts.

May God bless you and your loved ones.

Gemma is the first name, Umberta the second, Maria the third.
"Carlo" is (in my opinion) a mistake: it shoud have been "Enrico", the name of his father.
Usually the names following the first weren't used.

You are probably right--"Carlo" is likely a mistake in that it should probably have been "Enrico" (her fathers name)
